The Angono-Binangonan Petroglyphs elucidates the genesis why Angono, Rizal is being acclaimed as the Art Capital of the Philippines.
The artistic prowess of the town’s artists today can be traced back in the late Neolithic Period. Heritage is evident in the 127 figures of humans and animals engraved on the rockwall in the mountain boundaaries of Angono-Binangonan-Antipolo. As the oldest known artworks in the Philippines, the Angono-Binangonan Petroglyphs bring forth an indubitable legacy in vusal arts.
In conjunction with legacy, the Angono Ateliers Association Philippines, the oldest art group in Angono, will open an exhibit entitled “FROM PETROGLYPHS TO ART CAPITAL”
Masterpieces of brilliant homegrown artists such as Dolpee Alcantara, Atoy Apostadero, Cecille Artillaga, Bernardo Balagtas, Aaron Bautista, Adonis Carado, Rading Caringal, Jeff Gamulo, Rosali Gonzales, Aries Hernandez, Sarah Pallarca, and the Nemiranda will be showcased.
Carlos “Botong” Francisco may have accidentally discovered the oldest known artworks, but the apparent talent and skills of our prehistoric artists, as well as the great artists of Angono like himself, and the Angono Ateliers Association Philippines are all innate and culminated. And yes, the legacy lives.
The “FROM PETROGLYPHS TO ART CAPITAL” exhibit will run from February 26 to March 26, 2022 and will be held in The Galeria Perlita located in Eastridge Angono, Rizal (a few blocks away fro the National Museum Angono-Binangonan Petroglyphs Site Museum).
