Press Release
ALERÓN is an all-male ensemble founded by alumni of the Ateneo High School Glee Club. Since its revival in 2012 under founding conductor Christopher Arceo, the group has distinguished itself through daring repertoire and a hallmark emphasis on countertenor singing.
The ensemble quickly gained international acclaim, winning the inaugural Andrea O. Veneracion Choral Competition (2013) before securing Grand Prizes at the Busan Choral Festival (2014) and the Takarazuka Choral Festival (2015). ALERÓN has represented the Philippines on global stages, including the World Symposium for Choral Music in Barcelona (2017) and the Limburg Male Choir Festival (2019).
A champion of contemporary Filipino music, the group has premiered commissioned works by renowned composers such as Josefino “Chino” Toledo, Nilo Alcala, and Robin Estrada. This commitment to innovation is best reflected in their “concept concerts”—productions that transcend traditional choral formats to address complex themes and advocacies. Notable recent productions include Still (2022), To Where I Wait (2024) with Dr. Joel Navarro, and As It Was with German conductor Jan Schumacher.
Beyond music, ALERÓN pursues interdisciplinary collaborations with playwrights, poets, and designers like Guelan Luarca, Pat Valera, and the late Floy Quintos. Through these partnerships, the group continues to explore evocative new ways to communicate the human experience.
ALERÓN recently performed as one of the Highlight of this year’s 51st International Bamboo Organ Festival, read more here.
