sam penaso Sam Penaso, a Boholano visual and performance artist, and Fine Arts graduate of the Technological University of the Philippines, has held 14th solo exhibitions to date. Five of which were held in Japan, Thailand, Austria and Germany & Singapore while participating in more than 44 group exhibits & performance art festivals held locally & abroad.

He also actively participates in local performance art events, and is one of the core members of the Tupada International Action Art Events and the Philippine International Performance Art Festival, represented in the 10th Nippon International Performance Art Festival (NIPAF) in Japan.

Sam has also been a participant of painting exhibitions such as Asian International Art Exhibition in Indonesia, Philippines-Thailand Artist Exchange Residency in Bangkok, the Korea-Manila Fine Art Biennale in Seoul, ArTriangle in Malaysia, Young Art Philippines in Luxenbourg, Essen- Berlin Germany, London & Austria. Truly, Sam has been all over, and will continue to grow in wooing the crowd with his craft.

Sam’s paintings are mainly acrylic on canvas with texture, abstract with a modern twist. Most of his recent works are focused on textured stripes, letters and numbers. Sam’s ideas is not limited to this and would constantly experiment and explore with different styles and change it from time to time.

For six (6) years, Sam has been working full time in his paintings and in his performance art. He has evolved and explored in different forms of art when it comes to painting, performance, print and installation.

Sam gets his inspiration and ideas from a lot of things and great people, some of which are in the identity of Damien Hirst, David Medalla, and Paik Nam June to name a few.

An exhibit of 3 post-modern artists who are as diverse in translating art abstraction as they are in character, will be held at the Village Art Gallery , Alabang Town Center .  March 19 to April 5, 2011.
