Kammerchor Manila wins at the 6th World Choir Games

Kammerchor Manila, a church-choir based at the Holy Sacrifice Parish in UP Diliman, recently won a BRONZE MEDAL (Champions Competition) for the Mixed Chamber Choir Category and a SILVER DIPLOMA (Open Competition) for the Folklore Category at the 6th World Choir Games held in Shaoxing, China last July 15-19, 2010. More than 40 choirs participated in the categories where Kammerchor Manila won these accolades organized by INTERKULTUR. More than 20 categories where disputed in both the CHAMPIONS COMPETITIONS and the OPEN COMPETITION in what was billed as the "biggest gathering of choirs and musicians from all over the globe", used to be known as the "Choir Olympics”.


Kammerchor Manila was privileged to be chosen as representative of ASIA in the Grand Opening Ceremonies hleld last 15 July 2010 at the International Exhibition Center of China Textile City in Shaoxing. Kammerchor Manila performed "ANAK" popularized by Mr. Freddie Aguilar and "Rosas Pandan:, a Visayan song. The grand opening program was beamed around the world through CCTV Channel. Kammerchor Manila was also chosen to present a 25-minute program in the Gala Concert held at the Shaoxing University, sharing center stage with choirs from Russia and China held last 16 July 2010.


Three other Phillippine choirs joined the 6th World Choir Games held every two years. Cincinnati, USA will host the 2012 World Choir Games.


Kammerchor Manila's trip to China was made possible through the help of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation.
