It seems everybody is so excited over the news that WOW PHILIPPINES is open again! Foreign visitors especially the Balikbayans (Overseas Filipinos) always claim to have missed the fun in Intramuros. This is a joint project put up by the initiative of Senator Richard Gordon and through the cooperation of DOT Secretary Ace Durano, PTA General Manger Mark Lapid and IA Administrator Bambi Harper. This time, it will be called Intramuros: HistoryTown Philippines. It will now be a beautiful showcase of Philippine history, arts and culture under the guidance and direction of the Department of Tourism and its attached agencies, the Philippine Tourism Authority and the Intramuros Administration.
Intramuros: HistoryTown Philippines have been conducting various interesting activities and features such as mimetric historical statues, cultural shows, classical concerts, regional street festivals, regional food/delicacies and “Best of the Regions” showcase that will be featured on a given schedule. This project aims to highlight tourism attractions, products, trade and investment opportunities from all over the country.
 “Intramuros will be a one-stop venue where domestic and foreign tourists can experience the best of our 7,107 islands – our destinations, history, culture, celebrations, food and people” said Ace Durano, Secretary of Tourism.
The project also aims “To breathe life into the Walled City of Manila through food festivals, musical performances, colorful parades, unique exhibits and other cultural activities” Durano explained.
Aside from the regional showcase, this project includes new attractions such as the Kalinga Octagonal Hut and the Mayoyao House, a new landscape with period flowers and plants, and the OTOP (One town, one product) pavilion.
Last December, Intramuros: HistoryTown Philippines featured the PINOY, PINAS* electric parade (an electric parade of period-inspired lighted floats each depicting a significant historical theme that was capped by a grand fireworks display), performances by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, Ramon Obusan Folkloric group, UNEP Chorale, other famous cultural groups, and the never before seen Belen collection of Ramon Obusan was on display for the public the entire December.
January to the second week of February, Intramuros: HistoryTown Philippines featured Region 12 which comprises of Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, Koronadal, Tacurong, South Cotabao, General Santos, ARMM and others. Cultural performances from different cities are presented every hour, and a wide variety of handicrafts, apparels, accessories and delicacies are on display and sold in very low prices.
So whenever you are in Manila, drop by Intramuros: HistoryTown Philippines and experience the culture, beauty and tradition, every Filipino will surely be proud of.
