Pilita Corrales began her recording career in the sixties and continued to record in the new millennium, making her career one of the longest in the local popular music scene. Despite some excellent recordings at other times, the sixties may be regarded as her best and it is those recordings that make up this record album collection.
THIS IS PILITA is a first-rate sampling of Asia’s Queen of Songs’ body of work from the era. This CD assembles for the first time the best of her recordings for the Jonal label (released by Alpha Records), “This is Pilita,” “If You Go Away,” and “My Faithful Love.” Also in this album are her versions of the best pop songs of the day including some fine rarieties released only as 45”singles: “Cherry Red,” “Yo Te Amo,” I Say A Little Prayer” and a duet with actor Eddie Guttierez – “Can’t Get Used To Losing You.” To round the collection is a Spanish version of “The Music Played,” another song that came out only as a single, which has an English version here as well. For the uninitiated as well as the fan, this collection provides a fine summary of some of this legendary Cebuana mestiza vocalist’s best work. This is Pilita is available at all music stores nationwide, released by Alpha Music. |
