The Ligligan Parul held last December 15, 2007 was a successful event that once again proved that the City of San Fernando is the Christmas Capital of the Philippines. Mr. Boy Santiago and DJ Tyrah hosted the program which include the three rounds of competition where each barangay were given ample time to showcase their giant lanterns. The live music rendered by the city’s very own Magsilbi Tamu Brass band was the impromptu music for the third round wherein all the lanterns lit up at the same time.  

 

Second time participant Barangay Telabastagan won first place in the Giant Lantern Festival Competition 2007 held at SM City Pampanga Amphitheater. The belen in the middle of the 18 feet giant lantern of Barangay Telabastagan earned the loud applause from the audience and caught the eye of the judges. Last year’s champion Barangay San Felipe placed second and Barangay San Nicolas won third place.

The lanterns can still be seen for exhibition on December 22 at Telabstagan, December 3 at Sindalan and December 24 at the Poblacion. On December 16 – 31, the lanterns can be viewed nightly at HILAGA (formerly Paskuhan Village).
