Siling Lara Scientific Name: Capsicum anunuum Erect, branched, smooth shrub. Leaves are alternate, pointed at both ends. Flowers are solitary, bell-shaped, yellowish or white. Fruit is hollow, with numerous small flat seeds
Folkloric and Traditional uses: - Juice of the fruit, mixed with carrot juice, used as skin purifier, taken 2 to 3 cups daily.
- Mixed with spinach juice, used for abdominal pains, a cupful every 2 hours.
- Fruit also used for sore throat, hoarseness, dyspepsia. diarrhea, piles, hypertension.
| Siling-bilog Scientific Name: Capsicum annuum var. grossum Fruit is ovoid to oblong-ovoid, green, red on ripening, 6-10 cm long and 5-6 cm in diameter. The variety is usually eaten as a vegetable or stuffed with meat. |
Folkloric and Traditional Uses:
- Paste of the pepper is used a rubefacient.
- Infusion with cinnamon and sugar used for delirium tremens.
- Capsaicum, in equal parts with rhubarb and ginger, for gout and rheumatism.
