As Olympics are for Athletes, there’s World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) for talents such as dancers, singers, actors, models, and instrumentalists that are held annually in Hollywood.
The first and only international series of competitions to find and crown the best aspiring performing artists on Earth, which was then cited as the official "Talent Olympics".
Filipino artists graze this competition over the years and won numerous awards in different categories. As Jed Madela won the 2005 Grand Champion Performer of the World; and Catherine Loria who won the 2008 Grand Champion Vocalist of the World and Grand Champion Performer of the World to name a few.
Year after year, Filipino artists have proven their talents and love for the craft. And in this year’s competition, the Philippines team did not return empty handed.
Rhap Salazar hit a grand slam by winning the gold in five categories: Male vocal Broadway, Gospel, Open Pop, R&B/Soul/Jazz. And to place the icing on the cake, he won the 2009 Junior Grand Champion Performer of the World! Rhap was Little Big Star’s Season one Brigthest Star winner . A singing contest aired in abs-cbn where the show features aspiring young singers who battle it out each week to become the next Little Big Star. Rhap entered the Little Division competition for contestants ages 6 to 9 years old during that time. Kimverlie Molina also won the 2009 Grand Champion Senior Vocalist of the World title. She sailed through tough qualifying and semi final rounds against more than a hundred other vocalists around the world. Kimverlie performed in the Pop, R&B, Gospel, Rock and Broadway categories. She was just 14 when she first rose to stardom in the Middle East after winning abs-cbn’s “TFC Popstar” Grand Middle East Championship in Dubai last 2006.
