Cesar Pasco, founding chairman of the project SAGANA (Samahan Para Gabayan ang Nayon ng San Pedro, San Pablo City) help and guide their constituents thru a livelihood program. Most of their products are made from water lily, bagaybay (from the coconut), siit (from the bamboo) and urang (from kakawate).
This project was started due to a water lily problem in the lakes. Every time the farmers will harvest fish from the lake, the water lily was so thick that made it impossible for the boats to go thru. Because of this, they came up with a solution, a creative one! They transformed and created products made of water lily, such as handicrafts (lamps, plant holders, and frames to name a few) , fertilizer, charcoal and even paper.
Their main concept for the project, “Malinis na lawa na, dagdag hanap buhay pa” (Clean lake, results to more jobs)
Edna Andes – Palad on the other hand, is what I can say a natural artist. Starting merely in her own backyard as a hobby, she was able to create products such as sourvenirs and bird houses just to kill time. Her priority at the time was her family, so she just focus on creating and selling Christmas decors which was a big hit among locals and tourists alike.
Now that her youngest is in college, she has all the time in the world. Able to come up with fashion accessories such as bags, belts, earrings, necklaces and other household decors, she is now ready to handle bulk orders whether it is one of her existing designs or a customized one. Edna is now on a run to greater heights.
