when i was in college i never thought that i will cross the path of being a teacher. i studied music for the mere fact that this is what i love. but when i became a teacher for four years handling grades 1-3 in a montessori school in manila, i came to realize that being a teacher is a very special skill.
i gave myself a year to adjust to this profession and realize my potential. all the while i thought that teaching is all about me... but my students proved me wrong. as a matter of fact, my students taught me a lot, and they brought out the best in me.
no matter how big (or small) the salary was, or how the parents treat the teachers (whether good or bad), or how long we have to prepare and practice for each performance, by the end of the day, i saw my students progress, learn and develop their skills in singing, performing and a sense of respect for each other and for the craft.
it was the opportunity to impart something good, and be part of those student's lives even for just a short while.
to be able to be their teacher, their friend, their mother or sister during those school hours is truly worth it.
